Tarot De Marseille

We had a lecture on 'Gaming' where we learnt about card games such as 'Hazard' and 'Faro'. We also learnt about 'Tarot De Marseille' or 'Tarot Card Reading'. Both these card games were frowned upon by the church as they believed they were a form of 'Deivination'- fortune telling, and only god should decide your fate not a game based upon chance. This lead to the question "is there such a thing as chance?". There are three philosophical ideas in answer to this question:

FATALISM- The philosophical doctrine that all events are predetermined so that man is powerless to alter his destiny.

DETERMINISM- The philosophical doctrine that all events including human actions and choices are fully determined by preceding events and states of affairs, and so that freedom of choice is illusory.

PREDETERMINISM- The philosophical doctrine that all the events in the universe today were implicit in the earliest moments of the universe.
