I watched William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to grasp a better understanding of the term "'Star Cross'd lovers'" as I was thinking of incorporating it into my work.
It speaks of 'a pair of star-cross'd lovers' who take their lives, and 'doth with their death bury their parents' strife'.
I tried to analyse the film in terms of the Butterfly Effect: I couldn't decide if the preceding events led them to meet and the larger event was them falling in love which was already determined by the chain reaction and wasn't their free choice or if their death wasn't their free choice but determined by preceding events, the larger event being burying their parents strife?
I concluded the term Star'Cross'd lovers refers more to fatalism: no matter what you do the result is going to be the same, it is alreadyy written in the star's, however the idea of the zodiac and being born at a certain time influencing who you are is more in keeping with determinism.
Relationships in general are based around the idea of being in the right place at the right time, a "chance" meeting setting off a chain reaction leading to a larger event e.g marriage although the chain reaction could have started well before their first encounter. I would like to incorporate the idea of the zodiac and love being aspects of determinsim into my work.
